ESR13, Abhishek Dubey presented a short paper titled “A Review of Recent Advances in the Combustor and Blade Cooling Methods for Pressure Gain Applications” at the Joint Meeting of International Workshop on Detonation for Propulsion (IWDP) and International Constant Volume and Detonation Combustion Workshop (ICVDCW) held at TU Berlin. Co-authors of the paper are ESR14, Sreenath Purushothaman, A. Sorce and A. Traverso (TPG UNIGE). This paper presents a review of the recent advances in the gas turbine combustor and blade cooling methods in order to identify the most promising thermal management solutions for pressure gain combustion. Cooling effectiveness for blade cooling are discussed and innovative cooling concepts such as propellant injection cooling, pulse impingement cooling and bladeless turbine are also addressed. Additionally, the development of cooling models for cycle analysis and the cooling-associated performance losses are also investigated. Read more

ESR12, Panagiotis Gallis presented a short paper at IWDP-ICVDCW, Berlin, August 15-19, 2022

  23 August 2022

ESR12, Panagiotis Gallis presented a short paper titled "Development and Validation of a 0-D/1-D Model to Evaluate Pulsating Conditions from a Constant Volume Combustor" at the Joint Meeting of International Workshop on Detonation for Propulsion (IWDP) and International Constant Volume and Detonation Combustion Workshop (ICVDCW) at TU Berlin. The work is focused on the 0D/1D simulation of the peculiar Constant Volume Combustor developed by Pprime Institute aiming at evaluating the fluctuating stagnation conditions after the chamber. These results will be employed for the 3D-URANS CFD numerical analysis of the exhaust section and will pave the way for a re-design of the transition duct able to appropriately feed a subsequent High - Pressure Turbine Stage.
